Now I really need to take my name off the loan. What should I do if it seems he doesn't want to cooperate? (i.e. not go to the bank to have the loan refinanced; not answer my phone calls; not reply my email). What can I really do in this situation?

Go to the bank yourself and ask them what can be done. State laws vary a bit on the terms of loans, but you want your name off the registration and the loan. The bank will know the laws of this matter.
I've found some good sources here...

Good Luck.

If he is late makings the payments, you can repo it yourself. If you do not have the keys, call the car dealer and tell them you want the code number for the car because you lost your set. Then get it and hide it. You must also call the police dept and tell them it was repo'd. Then send him a letter, 1 regular 1 certified, giving him 10 days to either pay off the balance or get a new loan.Make a copy. If however he is paying on time, offer him $300 if he gets it under his own name. Make sure it is paid off before you give him the money. Just call the finance co and ask for the payoff. It should say nothing owed.

Sadly, there's really nothing you can do...especially if he does not want to be on speaking terms with you. You've learned a bitter lesson: Never co-sign a loan for someone you are dating or a friend....
It's up to your ex to take the initiative. If he has bad credit then he probably will not be able to refinance the loan on his own. Perhaps the only solution may be to offer him some sort of money in exchange for him taking you off the loan.
...............................................................................
Go to the issuing bank seeking your options First. If you believe asking your ex to assist you; will bring negative results, say nothing to him.
If he is making payments on time and it's going fine; leave him be and seek your options from the bank alone.
PS Never co-sign for anyone. In the event of that person's loss of earnings, illness, lack om income or death...you are obligated to pay.

If he is not paying, and you are taking a hit for it, you'll need to get the car back.
Contact the car company and notify them of what is happening and see what your rights are.
Contact the bank where the loan is signed on and see what your opions are.

well one learn from this mistake and not do it again. idk about this but maybe u can go to that place and take to them about this see if they will let you get off of it.

Slap yourself for co-signing for a loan for someone who is not family, or a husband.

talk with loaner and if have lawyer friend then talk to him/her.

Yea, I'm with Char on this one. Live and learn.
