I sent "globe life" $1 to start a policy for my son by answering a few simple questions on the form now they want more information by telephone before they will issue the policy has this happened to you?

This is normal. They're "underwriting" the policy.

If there was some issue or problem with your answers then they would be calling you. But why do you want insurance on your son?

You should get insurance on yourself in case something happens to you then someone could care for your son.

I would suggest you call some local life insurance agents and get some help and some quotes for you.

All insurance for kids is a rip off. You should only insure income. If the child does not contribute to the family income, then there is absolutely no need to insure them. Instead, put the equivalent of future premiums in a bank account for their future. Once you have $500 in there, go open a Roth IRA account for them at www.fidelity.com or www.vanguard.com

See links below to outstanding Roth's for children who want to be millionaires at or before age 50

Your son does not need life insurance - you do. Just forget the $1.
Make sure you have enough life insurance to take care of your son if you should die.
