and did not receive enough from unemployment to pay my rent, house bills and car payment so my car got repo.
so i filed bankruptcy a chapter 7, It has been discharge for over 5 years. I have not missed any payments after I filed bankrupt,
I recently had a baby and was thinking of applying for a discover credit card or citi bank card to charge some of the medical bills but was not for sure if i would be approved since i filed bankrupt.
I have some money saved for emergency but really don't want to use that money unless I have to. That's what happened last time i had no emergency savings, so i don't want to make that mistake again.
I have bought a house and have two credit cards (Sam's club & Gap)
I also bought another car and paid it off.
my credit score is 720, what are my chances of being approved?
Excellent. Even though the BK is still on your record they usually won't care at this point. They know you have to pay for at least 3 more years because you can't file again until then.
You need to crunch some numbers though. It sounds like you can't pay the medical bills off immediately. Have you tried to work out a payment plan with them. The interest rate might be cheaper a credit card.
Just keep paying your medical bill.Stay away from credit cards.
Build up you emergency fund, at least a six month reserve based on your current situation.
Now imagine, the card you want, take the interest alone you would have paid and go buy a CD and earn some interest instaed of paying it.
best wishes
I would say give it a shot. It seems you have been responsible since your bankruptcy with credit that has been extended to you.
if you can afford credit card payments, just set up a payment plan for the medical bills - they might not even charge you any interest - any credit card you are lucky enough to get will have at least a 20% int rate - maybe higher
8+ yrs after a BK and I still cannot get a new cred card with a decent int rate - doesn't matter though - I finally broke my spending habits after 30 yrs and no longer carry any balances on credit cards
