Now I'm thinking is there any point me signing on every 2 weeks, wasting an hour of my time just to tell them I'm looking for a job. I got told over the phone that I would be losing out, but if my partner works 2 days (minimum wage, 8 hours each day) and I'm still not getting any pay is there really much point... Need some advice as the people on the phone aren't much help at all.
Thanks
No there isn't any point - they only want you to waste your time sitting in the job centre every two weeks, spending money on travel that you can't afford, so the government can keep a tab on how many people are unemployed. Save your travel money and your time chick it's not worth it.
My bf is in the same situation - he too has been refused JSA (in spite of working all his life, near the top of his profession) and it is the most demoralising thing for him to have to sit in the job centre to 'sign on', not receive ANY JSA, explain just how much job hunting he's done (SO MUCH), only to see some fat-hairy-bummed-dirty-low-life sit there and say 'just gimme the pen' to the job centre worker. And then be given free money. SUCKS.
Sorry for the rant. I feel a bit better now. Just wanted you to know you aren't alone.
Oh I do feel for you. I know a few young people that don't bother to sign on - how disheartening for you all. My advice though is to keep signing on & keep fighting for your claim, all government bodies hope 'we, the people' give up cos it's so complicated and tedious but don't!
I hope you sort this out.
The only plus point Iof being signed on that I can think of is you will get credited with national insurance contributions for those weeks. This means that you won't lose any part of your entitlement to State pension and other contributions-related benefits like sickness benefit, if you do get a job and fall ill.
David H is right, keep signing on as they will pay your NI contributions for you. You do not want a shortfall come pension time.
Check whether they are paying you NI contribution. If they are then you may as well continue signing on.
