Old occupational pensions in the UK. How do you claim them?

A friend of mine wants to claim his occupational pension. He worked for a shoe company, B. S. C. Footwear from 1971 to 1975. He got a letter and a certificate of assurance from the company when he left stating he would get a company pension when he reached the age of 65. He is now 66.

The shoe factory is long since gone. How would he go about tracing his company pension? Who would he contact?

you can do it online.

I have known a few people to use this -- by all accounts quite easy and the staff are helpful

I did what Bennachi says and got details from them.
They traced the pension company and I claimed.
I had been in this particular pension scheme between 1967 and 1975 and had 'earned' the grand sum of £6 per year when I left.
The pension company decided this was too small to pay out monthly and paid me £800 to quit the scheme.
Your friend should pursue this as they may be lucky.
